"ফায়ারফক্স বন্ধ হয়না' এবং তার সমাধানে কয়েকটি পরামর্শ

আমি উবুন্টু বিডি মেইলিং লিস্টে নিচের প্রশ্নটি করেছিলাম। বন্ধুদের কাছ থেকে পরপর যে পরামর্শ ও সমাধানগুলো পাওয়া গেছে সেগুলো সবার জন্য উন্মুক্ত করে দিলাম

আমার সমস্যা ছিল:

কোন একটি অজানা কারণে ফায়ারফক্স হ্যাং হয়ে গিয়েছিল। উবুন্টুর force quit বোতাম চেপে (মেনুবারে এপলেট রেখেছি) বন্ধ করলাম। পরে আবার ফায়ারফক্স চালু করতে গেলাম, কিন্তু তখন মেসেজ দিচ্ছে যে "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
পরে অবশ্য সিস্টেম রিস্টার্ট দেয়ার পর ফায়ারফক্স ঠিকভাবে চালু হয়েছে।

এটা কি কোন সমস্যা? আমার কি করা উচিত ছিল?

search Firefox in system monitor (alt+f2 type system monitor & enter). kill
all remaining process and then start the apps again..

if the problem continues its probably because your profile got corrupted.
backup your ./mozilla/firefox folder then delete.
next time you start firefox it will create new profile... (remember this
will destroy all your bookmarks passwords settings etc..)
restore your old profile setting one by one (not all at once) continue
untill it gets corrupted again this way you will know which one is the
culprit.

then repeat the process this time just left out the rouge files/data...

Just do this:

Alt+F2 and then type  gnome-system-monitor

Look for firefox... and right click on it and kill the process. Then run
firefox back.

There must be a file which contain those saved pass. Did any 1 found that?

Maybe key3.db or somthing. But as he said backup ur profile delete the main then copy bookmark extensions folder from backup.

@darklord: I dont think thats what had happened to him. Deleting profile, one might lose important data. So, thats the last thing I'm gonna try or
advise anyone.

I said back up the profile first and said tht after reading sh reply.
But if prob is somwhere else then its ok

you can use Xmarks plugin to backup your passwords and bookmarks. I use it for share my bookmarks with other Systems .. if you have your own server you can use that server too.

I asked him to delete ./mozilla folder as a last resort (if the problem continues) not as the first step..

first step is just to kill the process and restart the app that's all.

Firefox will only use one profile at a time. It does this by putting a lock file in your profile folder when it starts. When you exit Firefox, the lock file is removed. If the lock file already exists when you start Firefox, or in a few other cases where the profile cannot be opened, Firefox displays an error message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

Go through your task or process list and stop each instance of the Mozilla application, or restart your computer. If that failed, Firefox may have shut down abnormally, leaving the lock in place. To fix this, open the profile folder and delete "lock" and ".parentlock" files.

That's it.

One more thing, if you are unable to unlock the profile using the above methods, use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and transfer your data from the locked profile to the new profile. Then from the Profile Manager, you can delete the old profile.

এরকম মেসেজ দিলে একটু অপেক্ষা করবেন। ৪/৫ মিনিট খুব বেশি হলে। তারপর ফায়ারফক্স চালু করলে এরকম সমস্যা হবার কথা না। ফায়ারফক্স জোর করে বন্ধ করতে গেলে উইন্ডোজেও একই মেসেজ দেয়। তখন একটু অপেক্ষা করলেই হয়।

Run the following command in your terminal to stop the existing firefox process:

sudo pkill firefox
